Alberich
Also known as Aelfric, Alferich,
Alpris, Andvari and Elberich.
The name of the
all-powerful King of the Dwarves, or the Dark
Elves, in
Teutonic and Scandinavian mythology.
A hideous gnome
and very powerful magician, Alberich was popularized as the thief of the magic ring of gold guarded by the Rhine Maidens in the
Nieblungenlied
by the German composer
Richard Wagner (1813-83). He conferred Siegfried with
Balmung, the invincible sword, and an enchanted cloak which imparted
invisibility. He also possessed a magic belt of strength and was responsible
for forging many of the gods extraordinary gifts, such as Freya's necklace.
Alberich amasses a huge fortune in gold by
stealing, and lives in a subterranean palace carved out of rock and ornate
with valuable gems and precious metals, but is later captured by the gods and forced to give it all up in return for his
freedom.

As you may have noticed, Occultopedia is being updated.
Navigation areas are completed, but the word definition pages are not. The
layout in these pages might not look as good as they should. Updating them
may take a while, so please, be patient and understanding. I am only one
person working on this site in my spare time.
As soon as these updates are concluded I will begin setting up the
Forums, so we can all discuss the
occult, paranormal and extraordinary, and whatever else we please.
Registration will be required.
Occultopedia's images and art are also undergoing an adjustment to
